Asus Eee Pad Transformer Tablet Vs Motorola Xoom

The Motorola Xoom is a fairly new gadget with an awesome dual core processor, the Nvidia Tegra 2. This fine piece of creation provides excellent performance that makes the Motorola Xoom very reliable, what with the fast web browsing and 3D gaming experience is provides. The Xoom is considered as the top Android tablet contender for the very promising Asus Eee Pad Transformer.

Open Frame Touchscreen

With the new Asus Eee Pad Transformer to hit the market, it brought waves to the computer industry. Like the Motorola Xoom, the Asus Transformer also operates with Android's Honeycomb 3.0. Both tablets have the same 10.1-touch screen display and a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. They are both equipped with a 1GHz Nvidia dual core Tegra 2 processor chip. They also have the same storage capabilities as both devices have 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM. The Xoom has a 32GB storage capacity and a micro SD card slot for storage expansion, while the Asus Transformer can be purchased with an 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB storage capacity with a micro SD card.

In terms of software, screen, resolution, processor, memory and storage capabilities, both tablets have more or less the same features. Are you confused what to purchase? There are actually striking differences that set these gadgets apart:

Portability

The Asus Transformer weighs 680 grams and has dimensions of 271 x 171 x 13 mm. The Motorola Xoom weighs 730 g and has dimensions of 249.1 x 167.8 x 12.9 mm. The Transformer seems a lot lighter and portable, but it is longer and wider than the Xoom.

Battery Life

The Xoom and the Transformer can both last up to 10 good hours. The Transformer may score a nice point in terms of battery life, because when attached with a keyboard dock, you can spend as much as 16 hours of use.

Connectivity

Both the Xoom and the Transformer have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, on top of a few HDMI ports. The Xoom, on the other hand, boasts of extra features such as the 3G and 4G capabilities.

Camera

The Xoom has a 5-megapixel camera on the backside and a 2-megapixel camera on the front, along with a dual LED flash. The Transformer also features two good cameras: a 5-megapixel one in the rear, and 1.2-megapixel one on the front.

Pricing

The Xoom is sold at 0 in most retail stores. The Transformer is priced at only 9, but it can be purchased at 9 if you want the useful keyboard dock.

Verdict

Both the Motorola Xoom and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer are almost at par in basic features. They are equally competitive in terms of portability, performance, quality and functionality. With their respective price tags, however, the Asus Transformer comes out as the winner.

If you do not mind spending a hundred bucks more for a tablet PC, the Motorola Xoom would make a great gadget for your needs. If you are on a rather tight budget though, purchasing the Asus Eee Pad Transformer would be a wiser decision.
